Duties: Position provides support in delivering psychiatric nursing care and therapeutic treatment by evaluating individual nursing care plans, administers and evaluates effectiveness of medications, health teaching, (including all aspects of illness management), and group and milieu treatment interventions. Provide primary milieu management, crisis intervention, and patient teaching. Perform medication administration and selected nursing procedures in the physical care of patients according to established policies and procedures. Apply verbal and/or physical intervention techniques to diffuse behaviors. Assesses psychiatric and discharge needs, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents treatment plans consisting of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, formal and informal treatment and teaching groups, and behavioral plans using nursing theory and concepts. Must participate in all Code 0, CTI, and fire drills as they occur. Position will be required to work any unit in the hospital to meet the needs of business and will perform duties within the scope of their practice. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions and Conditions of Employment:

Minimum Qualifications: You must possess and maintain a valid insure as a Licensed Practical Nurse Psychiatric Care Technician (Mentally Ill Endorsement) issued in the State of Colorado in good standing and a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:
Twelve months experience working with chronically mentally ill clients Twelve months experience working in a psychiatry setting Twelve months experience working in a hospital setting Twelve months experience working with geriatrics clients Twelve months experience working with forensic clients Twelve months experience working with adolescent Twelve months experience as a LPN OR Psychiatric Care Technician With the Mental Ill Endorsement. Experience working in a team environment with a team of multi disciplinary health professionals Experience leading groups Experience with milieu treatment interventions Required Skills: Must have ability to successfully complete paperwork given on subject matters related to the job covered during orientation. Must have ability to speak clearly and effectively in a variety of settings. Must have ability to follow written and/or oral instructions Must have a record of reporting to work consistently and on time. Must be able to work with people who display confrontational, manipulative, violent, and/or assaultive behaviors and in a locked and secured setting. Conditions of Employment: A pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges. Must be willing and able to work any shift, holidays, and weekends Must be willing to work in any division within the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo, i.e., Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, Geriatric Division, General Adult and Adolescent Psychiatric Services. Position is designated as essential. Must be able to exert force and/or lift patients. Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull and reach. The successful applicant(s) must be able to perform the physical requirement of the position as a condition of employment. Former employees of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) who were disciplinary terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on your application and may not be eligible for employment at CDHS.

Step 1 - Minimum Qualification Review: An HR Analyst will review your application against the minimum qualifications in this announcement. Candidates will be notified by email regarding the status of this review once the position closes. Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will move to Step 2.

Step 2 - Training and Experience Evaluation - Candidates will be notified by email regarding the date, time, and place of the exam. The top ranking candidates from this evaluation will be invited to participate in Step 3. The first exam will be conducted tentatively the week of August 6, 2012 and weekly thereafter on an ongoing basis.

Step 3: The three top ranking candidate's from this exam process will be referred to the appointing authority tentatively the week of August 13, 2012 or sooner if possible and weekly thereafter on an ongoing basis.
