Knowledge and Skills

Excellent leadership skills through role modeling professional behavior and a high degree of customer service. Capacity to collaborate with other health care team members. Ability to plan ahead and anticipate potential problems and implement plans proactively to maintain clinic productivity. Ability to independently take initiative to problem-solve, and maintain an orderly patient flow through clinic.

  • Collaborates with RN and physician to manage clinic practice: Implements plan for each clinic ahead of time to identify and anticipate potential problems; Monitors master schedule; Demonstrates ability to problem-solve effectively when unexpected patient flow issues arise; Pages physicians when patients are ready for their visit. Coordinates telephone communications with patients, families, referring providers, and other members of the health team; utilize follow-up system to assure care follow-up and coordination is accomplished.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of the assigned work area and the institution. Communicates appropriately to other staff members when leaving the clinic area.
  • Assumes a leadership role to ensure a complete patient record by recording into the Patient Record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, respiration, pulse) height and weight, and other information as required. Assists in the orientation of new staff members
  • Performs competencies (including age-specific competencies) as identified through the departmental competency program.
  • Maintains supplies in all nineteen exam rooms and laboratory supplies to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Collects and correctly labels blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients by venipuncture, fingerstick, or capillary techniques. Reports any adverse reactions to supervisor or nursing staff. Demonstrates skill in understanding & communicating financial implications of lab testing as required.
  • Prepares specimens for analysis by centrifugation, separating specimens from red cells and other techniques required for distribution of the sample to the appropriate work areas. Processes paperwork correctly.
  • Performs electrocardiograms (EKGs) on adult and pediatric patients as directed. Processes and files chart copies of these reports. Works with supervisor to monitor procedure activity.
  • Responsible for knowledge about computer systems in department, including proper use of order/reports/charging and maximizing personal proficiency. Supports and is aware of research projects in work area.
  • Performs as backup to staff absences and vacancies as necessary.
  • Performs manual billing, error correction, photocopying and data entry as required.
  • Provides appropriate education to patients/families utilizing effective teaching skills, and National Jewish supportive materials as directed by Registered Nurse while supporting National Jewish's philosophy of patient/family education.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Certification and Licensure

CPR/BLS required; Medical Assistant Certification, required. Documentation of completion from a formal Medical Assistant program through an accredited school or documentation of a medical program that meets the criteria of a medical assistant program such as military prepared corpsman or medic required.

Work Experience

A minimum one (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant required.
