Under general supervision, The School-Based HCP II position is a member of a team of health professionals furnishing primary health services in a School-Based Health Center (SBHC). The School-Based HCP II is responsible for clerical and clinic duties at the SBHC site. The SBHC HCP II is the team member responsible for administrative office work related to registering patients, maintaining records and files, maintaining a smooth and organized patient flow and facilitating non-patient care communications. The SBHC HCP II will also assist the Primary Care Practitioners in patient communications, medication administration, assessment and appointment triage; patient check-in and other activities associated with medical assisting. Medical assistant duties vary from site to site, but administrative duties are required and standard at all sites.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited program in Medical Office Assisting Program or accredited program of Licensed Practical Nursing with an active LPN license. Holds the following: Certificate of completion at time of hire or active LPN license. Experience: One (1) year of experience working in school-age student services preferred; completion of a 160 hour externship or six (6) months direct patient care experience in an outpatient setting: inclusive of phlebotomy, medication administration (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, and immunizations), and medical/surgical asepsis procedures and techniques. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medical office practice. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments as directed. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Bilingual skills preferred. Certifications and Licenses: MA or LPN. Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification.
