Position Summary The inpatient nurse practitioner delivers nursing and collaborative medical aspects of care to specific populations within! the scope and standards of practice set by the American Nurseâs Association within a 10 Bed Psych Unit in the Emergency Room. The nurse practitioner collaborates with the physicians and interdisciplinary team members to review the plan of care and intervene when necessary to ensure adequate delivery of quality health care in a cost effective way. Utilizing extensive advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology, the nurse practitioner exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes and procedures. The ultimate goal of the inpatient nurse practitioner is to improve continuity of patient care and facilitate patient flow throughout the health care continuum.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current Colorado Registered Nurse License, Current Colorado Advanced Practice Registry. Specialty certification as an Acute Care adult or Family Nurse Practitioner within 6 months of hiring. Current BLS and ACLS Certification. Prescriptive authority.
Education:
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. Completion of an accredited program for nurse practitioners MSN required.
Experience:
Sufficient previous experience as a nurse practitioner. Minimum field-of-experience, completion of an accredited program including preceptorship. Possesses advanced knowledge of theory and practice in professional nursing as evidenced by credentials, peer review and performance evaluation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Performs independent nursing assessments, but works interdependently with the phy! sician. Demonstrates an advanced level of nursing expertise by incorporating advanced nursing practice. The nurse practitioner is accountable for his/her action. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at SMC. Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
Degree of Supervision Required:
Under supervision of Director/Designee.
Orientation Period:
Minimum of 2 weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by Department Director.
