Position Summary
The Peri-Anesthesia Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and other nursing services to patients and their fam! ilies by applying and documenting the nursing process; assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating. The job description incorporates the standards and guidelines of the American Society of Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN).

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:All GRSC Employees:

Position Specific:
Delivers high quality patient care: Assesses patient status though observation, interview, review of records and clinical status. Identifies physical symptoms and changes in patient condition Implements appropriate interventions and evaluates responses in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Plan, organize, implement and manage appropriate standard of care based upon assessment, knowledge of facts, surgical conditions & care, physician orders, policies & procedures and governing organization (ASPAN) standards. Formulate teaching based on patient and family needs as appropriate. Provide patient with preparation of procedures, verbal reass! urance and explanation consistently. Ensures patient confidentiality, c! omfort and safety while working with multidisciplinary team members. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop and deliver individualized care. Consistently and accurately reassess care and communicates information to appropriate personnel. Maintains knowledge of medications, IV fluids and their route of administration.Administers and controls narcotics and medications according to physician orders and policy. Assists with inventory control.Manages inventory and handles equipment with a fiscal and safety-based conscience. Ensures cleanliness and maintains state of readiness in assigned area. Exhibits good judgment and critical thinking skills in non-emergent and emergent measures. Effectively performs a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including but not limited to wound care, medication administration, catheterization and other designated procedures. Documentation in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, including medications, treatments, teaching! , charges and interventions. Is knowledgeable of and demonstrates the principles and standards of aseptic technique and universal precautions. Accountable for assignment and the completion of within the scheduled work hours. Assist with orientation of new staff members as needed.Function as a clinical resource as needed. Demonstrate ethical and legal principles to practice. Facilitates appropriate flow of patients in the OR, Pre-op and PACU. Utilizes initiative: strives to maintain steady level of productivity. Reviews record, assembles appropriate documentation and advances the patient chart throughout stay. May cover for Peri-Anesthesia Team Lead in his/her absence. Performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities)
1. Current licensure in this State as a Registered Nurse.
2. Previous work experience in an outpatient surgery setting or in an acute care hospital of no less than one (1) year.
3. Current BCLS certification.
4.! ACLS certification within six (6) months of date of hire.
