Position Overview:

The Health Information Technician’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: taking incoming calls from facilities and outside vendors, managing internal and external release requests via multiple request platforms (e.g., fax, email, phone, Bluestone Bridge, and EHR messaging), uploading information into electronic patient files, working with payer chart audits, sending of visit summaries to facilities, and requesting outside patient records. All of these job functions and others must be completed while maintaining proper HIPAA guidelines. This position will support all Bluestone markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes internal and external requests for medical records
  • Obtains new patient medical history
  • Uses internal patient portal to communicate with providers, family, and community members
  • Upholds quality standards by following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Provides education and customer service to customers including but not limited to Patients, Families, Home Health Agencies, Legal Offices, etc.
  • Keeps up to date on all compliance and procedural policies.
  • Adheres to all policy and procedures relating to patient's protected health information.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Experience

  • Health Information Management (HIM) certification preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience working in Health Information Management
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems
  • Proficient at verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work independently to meet company goals and timelines
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume environment
  • Intermediate-level computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated compatibility with Bluestone’s mission and operating philosophies
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
