The Occupational Health Coordinator position is responsible to promote employee health and the prevention and management of illness and injury within Craig Hospi! tal to maximize employee and organizational performance. This position will provides nursing care/health education and guidance for hospital employees through a comprehensive program that includes first aid, care, assistance, and case management of work-related injury or illness. The Occupational Health Coordinator manages all employee health issues for all departments.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain clinical expertise and competency to deliver quality care. Use and document the nursing process in care management; maintain current knowledge of treatment modalities, evaluate care effectiveness, and document all aspects of assessment and care management. Acquire general occupational and environmental health histories, referring to health care provider(s) and providing consultation as appropriate. Assess and identify occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Work cooperatively with various committees to develop and manage Oc! cupational Health maintenance programs such as screening and m! onitoring of health conditions (i.e. needle stick injuries, exposures) and to minimize the risks associated with potential workplace hazards.
  • Ensure the facilitation of early identification and treatment of injured employees. Complete accurate injury and illness investigations, early Return to Work documentation, implementation of Temporary Modified Duty during recovery from work related injuries and effective communication and coordination to promptly return injured employees to regular duty.
  • Serve as the case manager for occupational injuries and illnesses, being proactive in loss control/trending and partner with departments to reduce future injury rates and severity.
  • Use and maintain an accurate, complete recordkeeping system while maintaining confidentiality. Maintain and safeguard employee case management records in keeping with established codes of ethics and legal or regulatory requirements to assure confidentiality of health information.
  • Implement occupational and environmental health and safety education and training which incorporate knowledge of current laws and regulations governing worker, worksite and community health and safety. Collaborate with other disciplines in regard to education and training programs.
  • Coordinate the occupational health services and programs through participation in the formulation of goals, plans and decisions related to programs and services, and development of the budget for the program or service.
  • Assess the physical requirements of positions to assist with hiring, proper placement, fitness for duty, reasonable accommodation and return to work.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention strategies and programs by providing programs and services that increase awareness of health issues and choices.
  • Foster compliance with current laws and regulations governing work force and worksite safety, health! and environmental issues. Identify compliance issues and collaborate w! ith Safety/Risk Management.
  • Develop and present programs promoting employee health/wellness in the workplace
  • In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources review and make ADA reasonable accommodation determinations
  • Work cooperatively with payroll department and Human Resources to process and coordinate all employee leaves and absences, including those relating to workers’ compensation claims and Extended Illness Bank

Minimum Requirements

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Current Colorado RN license and current BLS for the Health Care Provider certification required. Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse preferred.
  • Education: Graduate of a nursing program from an accredited college or university required. Graduate of a CCNE or NLNAC accredited school! of nursing preferred; BSN Required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an occupational health nurse or nurse management role.
  • Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge in Worker’s Compensation, FMLA, ADA and disability laws, OSHA, and occupational health nursing functions. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the employees served at designated sites. Strength in independent decision making, problem solving, and follow through required. Excellent in collaborating, consulting, and networking skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Skilled in the operations of the basic office equipment. High interpersonal, assessment, communication, and negotiation (both verbal and written) skills required. Must be effective at handling sensitive medical and confidential information.
