EMPLOYEE NAME:
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides clinical services to patients acting as an assistant to physicians in the clinic following established sta! ndards and practices. Participate in call rotation with other clinical providers and acts as surgical assistant to physicians in surgery.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires frequent standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries item weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic and surgery center environment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all duties assigned.)
1. Obtains complete medical history and phy! sical data on patients.
2. Interprets and integrates ! data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate.
3. Performs complete physical exam and records findings. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
4. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
5. Provides surgical assistance during surgical procedures.
6. Administers medications and injections according to physician direction.
7. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and postoperative care.
8. Instructs patient and family regarding medications, treatment instructions and postoperative care. Provides patient education.
9. Maintains and reviews patients records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.
10. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation according to clinic protocol.
11. Manages medical and surgical emergencies.
12. Cond! ucts rounds on overnight patients.
13. Shares call schedule with the registered nurses.
14. Reviews consents for completeness and current procedures. Conducts consent appointments in support of the nurses.
15. Provide consultation to registered nurses.
16. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
17. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
18. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
19. Maintains patient confidentiality.
20. Performs related work as required.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of professional medical theory, practice, and medical care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to assi! st during surgery and administer patient care. Knowledge of common safe! ty hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medical services to provide continuity of patient care. Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
2. Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. !
3. Must have Surgery and Suturing Experience as well as 1st assist.
Experience: Three years professional experience in a clinic and or a surgical center setting.
Certificate/License:
Physician Assistant Certification from the National commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc.
Registration from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration
