CDI SPECIALIST

The CDI specialist will be responsible for facilitating concurrent documentation of the medical record to achieve accurate inpatient coding, compliant DRG assignment, and accurate severity of illness. P! osition works collaboratively with medical, nursing, ancillary, and coding staff to improve the quality of chart documentation to assure appropriate DRG classification. Performs concurrent review of selected inpatient admissions to include assignment of DRG, identifying complication and co-morbid conditions, specific co-existing conditions and as necessary, follow-up with the physician responsible for care of the patient for appropriate documentation. Identifies the need to clarify documentation in the medical record and initiates communication with physician using the appropriate “query†tools in order to capture accurate documentation. Serves as a resource for physicians to help link ICD-9-CM and ICD-10 coding guidelines and medical terminology to improve accuracy of final code assignment. Works closely with facility Chief Medical Officer and Physician Advisor to ensure effectiveness of CDI program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: RN
5 years clinical exper! ience in hospital setting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS! : BSN preferred
Utilization review or coding experience preferred
