The Medication Nurse will be responsible for
administering the proper dose of methadone to each
patient as prescribed by the Medical Director or Program
Physi! cian. He or she ensures medication accountability.
The Medication Nurse assists in the screening of
patients and keeps in close contact with counselors
regarding patientsâ progress. The Medication Nurse will
perform duties within the scope of their license or
certification which are an addendum to this job
description.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
Professional Development
- Responsible for the achievement of assigned specific

- Administer methadone as prescribed by the Medical

- Observe and assess patients after the initial dose
- Follow all physician orders

- Plan and implement changes necessary for improved
- Attend and function as an active participant in
seminars and training
- Maintain active communication (weekly) with other
relevant program/patient changes
- Maintain and help with a chart monitoring system to

- Assist the Medical Director or Progr! am Physician

- Hold a basic understanding of drug/alcohol abuse and
treatment information - specifically current trends
in Opioid Maintenance Treatment

Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate must be licensed as a LPN/LVN or RN
in the state of employment, be CPR certified and must
hold and maintain a valid driverâs license. Experience
and understanding of chemical addiction is preferable.

Agencies; or Registered Nurse (RN)
- Kansas: Licensed! Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered
- Kentucky: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or

- Missouri: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or
- Oklahoma: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or
- Tennessee: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or
- Texas: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered
