Location: Coal Creek Colorado

Description: PAML is at present looking to employ PHLEBOTOMIST I right now, this position will be placed in Colorado. Perform a variety of specimen collection techniques from patients in patient service centers, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living locations, and client’s facilities. Additional duties s! pecific to a location may include: reception, collection of billing information, specimen processing and client and customer service duties. A phlebotomist maintains a professional relationship with patients, clients and peers. Performs all tasks in accordance with the Company’s safety and compliance programs.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, to include venipuncture and capillary techniques, using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.

Facilitates the unobserved collection of urine specimens.

Greets patients. Interacts directly with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation.

To adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals: “of improving the accuracy of patient identification by requiring: (1) The use of at least two patient identifiers (neither to be t! he patient’s location) whenever collecting laboratory sample! s or blood products, and (2) use two identifiers to label sample collection containers in the presence of the patient.

Completes test requisition to include patient demographics , accurate required billing information, and transcription of client test orders.

Centrifuges blood specimens as necessary to maintain specimen integrity.

Processes, labels, and stores specimen samples for subsequent analysis.

Maintains inventory of supplies, reordering as required; stocks supplies on carts and hand trays.

Performs various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.

Operates Laboratory Information System (LIS) for entry of patient demographics, test orders, billing information.

Frequently uses office equipment including telephone, computer, fax, etc. Perform telephone and other clerical duties.

Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment. Perform light cleaning of! work area.

May Perform specialized collection to include breath alcohol testing and hair collection.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

May deliver specimens between locations.

Moderate physical activity. May require physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds and some extended periods of standing or walking.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

At least 1 year of recent, directly related experience to include 3 months practicum gained in a clinical, hospital, or laboratory setting.
OR

Phlebotomy Certification by an accredited agency, completion of an approved phlebotomy training course, MLT (ASCP) Certificate, or LPN/RN Licensure. Must meet all state and local requirements.

Preferred education, skills or experience

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Knowledge of computer operating systems and other computer application software.

Abil! ity to work without direct supervision.

Ability to perform sta! ndard phlebotomy procedures and techniques.

Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written.

Knowledge of appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.

Ability to accurately complete and maintain administrative documents and records.

Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocol, specifications, and procedures.

Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

Knowledge of relevant clinical and patient care regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.

Independent judgment and good reasoning ability.

Good public relation skills.
